Fall and Preparing for Winter
If you haven't been up to Ogden Valley lately, it's worth a Sunday drive. Our favorite is to head up the 39 towards Woodruff where you can get up into the big pines above Monte Cristo. There's still plenty of bursts of red, yellow and green to enjoy up there and if you're hungry you can stop off at the Red Cliff Cafe just below Causey Dam. They've got some good burgers and our kids love the grilled cheese. It's a great drive to take up towards Woodruff if you're looking for something to do or clear your head a little.
Anyway, we're going pretty hard at it now at the farm. Getting weeds under control, cleaning out ditches, building a beautiful horse barn and equestrian area, adding accessibility to various fields, preparing pastures for another season of grazing and cutting, cleaning up debris, draining hoses, installing water heaters, and otherwise getting things put away so we don't inadvertently drive over them once 2-3 feet of snow falls. After all, there are few things as embarrassing and frustrating as welcoming the thawing of Spring only to find some piece of equipment with an extra twist or dent in it that wasn't there in Autumn. Just creates one more thing that needs to get done - the farmer's version of "job security."
