OUR STORY
Short Story: We are an active farm, currently focused on hay and beef production - but are building to expand with an equestrian center and to produce top quality fish and chicken. We are also looking to partner with various organizations to test new or experimental farming techniques. Our hope is to preserve the agrarian nature of this little corner of the beautiful Ogden Valley and reinvigorate the kind of living too often lost in the modern age.
Long Story: While "Cardon Farms" as an entity has only been around since 2005, the land that we manage is hardly new to various forms of commercial agriculture. We were situated in Ogden Valley (used to be called Ogden Hole - hole being an antiquated term for valley - like Jackson Hole). The valley itself was settled by trappers, and then by Jefferson Hunt in 1860 - from whom our town gets its name. Since that time the land we now sit on has been owned and run by a lot of different families in a lot of different forms. Our 500 or so acres sits "kitty corner" NE from Huntsville town proper. Technically we're in "unincorporated Weber County". The land itself has been Its been used for dairy cows and had a small dairy barn that was operated by the Wangsgaard family from " " until " ". Some of the old stainless steel pipes and fittings are still in there.
Most famously perhaps, it is the home of "Trappers Trout Farm." That was first run by the Knight family back in " " and then by Dell Argyle from about " ". It is a great little pond with tiger, rainbow and brook trout in it. A lot of the local kids grew up spending their summers working in the hot, non-air conditioned fish shed - cleaning the caught bounty for the patrons. Typically a life changing kind of job - in one way or another. Currently, we still allow people to come and fish it - but by appointment only.
More recently - Patsy Dickens and her husband " " bought a barn and farm up by the Green Hills Subdivision. It was about 80 acres. They had a vision to turn it into a working farm where they could run a wedding/event center
The Jensens, the Wangsgaards, the McKays - all families that at one point or another have owned or farmed this place for beef or hay. (Maybe put a kind of timeline in place?).
